Here we honour just a few of the brave and wonderful AMCUK Rescue Malamutes who’ve passed on to the other side and now run free. They are gone, but never forgotten.

Few dogs touched the hearts of so many as Mia, the disabled little boot-wearing Malamute girl that Sammy and James fostered for a time. “She really was a truly special girl and, despite her disabilities and her pain, still loved everyday and greeted us with a smile and a huge woo-woo-woo! Run free our sweet angel...you won our hearts with your gentle woos and you will be missed more than you will know.  You will forever be known to us as ‘Miss Wobble Woo at  Luponooshka’."

Miskka was gorgeous, with the most beautiful smile. She was a celebrity in her own right, and has quite a story to tell.

Mishka had been brought in after being found in an extremely bad way on a hillside in Wales. She was skin and bones, had sores on her body, was wet through and wouldn’t have lasted much longer on her own.

Many people helped in her care and followed her progress (including surgery for mammary tumours).

Eventually, she was rehomed with a wonderful couple who accepted her, foibles and all, and spent the next 18 months making certain she lived the life she was meant to have.

Sadly, on a check-up on a mammary growth, the x-ray showed lung cancer had developed. She had little time to live and, her loving family left her to sleep rather then submit her to any more pain.

To the end, Mishka’s beauty shone through and she gave her forever family 18 wonderful months of love and joy.

“Dylan: A Tribute”

“The short amount of time that we
had you, you will never know how
much you changed our lives and how
much joy you brought to us. You
brought chaos to our lives but we
loved every minute of it and we would
do it all again without hesitation.

You were not like the usual malamute;
you lived up to your name, “Dylan”…
laid back, but you certainly did have a mischievous streak. We miss your usual begs for fuss, we miss pulling hair out of our food and off our clothes, we miss your smell and your howls when the fire engines go past. But most of all we miss you more than you can possibly imagine.

We thank you for letting us be your forever home. The house is empty now, but we share comfort in knowing we were with you till the very end. you are back home now where you belong sitting with us each night while we watch telly.

There will never be another dog like you and we wouldn’t want it any other way. So we hope you are having fun at rainbow bridge and hope you know that not a day goes by without us thinking about you. RIP big lad, all our love. Mum and Dad

“Rocky: Loved You Best”

Rocky, a true “rescue”, came to the AMCUK rescue after being found, at 16 months, chained in a yard, where he had been held since he was a puppy.

A black and white dog, he spent a long while at Battersea Dogs Home, in rehabilitation. Rocky
had a long coat and one ’soft ear’, which gave
him a teddy bear appearance.

Rocky was one of those dogs with something special —and with special needs— but one of the brightest Malamutes you could ever have known.  One of his great joys was playing football – hence his nickname ‘Van Nistelroy’.

He was never very demonstrative but was always pleased to greet his friends, and to be included in that circle was quite an honour, as he didn’t take to everybody!

Rocky went through a lot in his too short life, but Ruth and Paul were always there for him and did their best to care for and do the right thing for him, which they did, of course, ‘til the end.

Rocky had problems with his eyes, discovered when he went for a routine eye test.  However his condition worsened far more quickly than anticipated by anyone His quality of life had deteriorated and therefore the sad decision was made to let him go to save him further suffering.

Sleep tight Rocky. …We’ll never forget you.”

Loved You Best

So this is where we part, My Friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, and the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this...I loved you best

The Committee of the AMCUK would like to thank all of the owners and caretakers of these magnificent animals for their commitment to the care, happiness and well-being of these beloved AMCUK Rescue Malamutes. They will have known no better home and no greater love than that given them by these loving friends.

Kai was a part of the Hickman family and his untimely passing broke their hearts. In his Forever Home for just two years, Kai became ill and passed suddenly, much loved by everyone who met him. He was a very special dog, with such character, and the family has found it very difficult to be without him. “We couldn`t have asked for a better dog,” they say, “even though he was only with us for such a short time. We would like to thank everyone at Malamute Rescue, especially Joan, for giving us the chance to get to know Kai and to share our lives with him.” Run free, big boy, run free.

We are still all in shock and feel the emptiness without Kai`s presence.
